Advanced Soil Fertility
In this lecture we will discuss:
• Introduction
- the concenpts of "Soil fertility" vs. "Soil Productivity"
- Chemical fertilizers and their role in "Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security"
• Main plant growth limiting factors in field and orchards*,
• Principles of Soil Testing
• A brief description on nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in soil and plant,
• Micronutrients in soil and plant; their effects on human health
• Agronomic and genetic Biofortification of crops,
• "Diagnosis and Correction" of nutrient disorders in soil and plant
• Principals of "Fertigation"
• How to get a Certification for Fertilizers?
In the LAB section, students will experience the method of Soil Testing and Plant Analysis by collecting required soil and plant samples from an agriutural system (field, orchard, greenhouse)
No prerequitic is needed
Questions will be asked on the preceding lectures in a written test which lasts 5-10 min (open book),
the tests are noted, and an average note is calculated;
a non excused absence at each test = 0
The final note = average note of the written exams (2.0) plus midterm exam (4.0) plus final exam note (8.0) plus Lab. note (6.0)
Additional note (up to 2.0) is considered for class activity and reports received
The credit point is given when the final note is >= 12.0
